DevCorp Still Campaigning for Alderman Moore
In a very sneaky way, private city contractor DevCorp North is supporting incumbent 49th Ward Alderman Joe Moore. And that is illegal.
Several months ago, DevCorp was warned that it had to remove links to Joe Moore's aldermanic web site because Moore was using it as a campaign tool. DevCorp grudgingly complied and Moore has since stopped using his official aldermanic web site to campaign with.
But in a very subtle way, DevCorp is back at it. Have a look at this web page, which promotes an event five months in the future. There is an election next Tuesday, but DevCorp speaks as though Joe Moore will still be alderman in July. Joe may or may not win, but if he loses on Tuesday it will no longer be "Joe Moore...organizing" anything. But this reference is a clever attempt to plant the idea that Moore is automatically expected to win.
WHY did DevCorp feel a need to remind us all to "save the date" five months in advance, with the aldermanic election less than a week away? Could they not have waited until next Wednesday, after the election? Or were they in a hurry to remind us before the election that Joe Moore loves to bring us bread and circuses?
The full text of the piece appears below (orange highlighting added by me). Note to DevCorp: I archived it as an .mht file, so don't bother deleting it.
