Duh: Obama Gets Name of British Embassy Wrong

Posted by T. Mannis Wednesday, November 30, 2011

November 30, 2011 - You thought it was pretty funny when Herman Cain messed up the name of Uzbekistan, didn't you? Sure you did. "U-becky becky becky becky stan stan," is what he called it, albeit tongue-in-cheek, as he said in an interview in October.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton quickly had a good laugh about it with none other than Hamid Karzai, President of Afghanistan. Yep, pretty funny when a conservative politician intentionally mispronounced Uzbekistan, eh?

But what about Barack Obama's expertise on foreign affairs?  In a press conference last night, Obama had no teleprompter. In a remarkably ignorant statement, he called condemned the recent storming of the British Embassy in Tehran, Iran. Problem is, he called it "the English Embassy."

For those of you who, like Obama, are as ignorant about foreign affairs as the average 3rd grader, the correct term is "British Emabassy," not "English Embassy."

This is succinctly explained by Nile Gardiner at The Foundry in a Nov. 30 column:. "In case the president is unaware," he wrote, "England forms part of Great Britain, which also includes Scotland and Wales, though not Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. There is no such thing as an 'English' embassy anywhere in the world, and there hasn’t been one for several centuries."

What Obama did, in effect, was to refer to a foreign embassy that technically does not exist. There is no such thing as an "English Embassy" anywhere on Earth. Gardiner also wrote that "One can only imagine the kind of howls of derision that would greet any presidential contender if that kind of basic error were made..."

Great Britain has no embassies, just England does not. England is part of Great Britain, which in turn is part of the United Kingdom.

The "Know Britain" website tells us that many Brits are confused by what the term "Great Britain" means. "Try asking a person living in the United Kingdom the exact meaning of the expression they have on their passports: 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland'. Many will not be able to provide an adequate answer. No wonder, therefore, that confusion also exists outside the United Kingdom and that in other European countries people erroneously group together the English, Scottish and Welsh under the word in their own language meaning 'English'."

Will Hillary Clinton yuk it up with any world leaders about Barack Obama incorrectly calling the British Embassy in Tehran the "English Embassy?" No, I don't think so either, and the Mainstream Media won't play it up either.

Obama's defenders might call his "English Embassy" reference an understandable gaffe, but it clearly was not. Rather, it was the result of Obama's ignorance.

In the press conference, Obama said the following: "All of us, I think, are deeply disturbed by [pause] the [pause] aaahhh [pause, brain fart] crashing of, uh, the English Embassy. Ah, thuh, the embassy of the United Kingdom in Iran."  He got it wrong not once, but twice. It is not the "embassy of the United Kingdom." It is the embassy of Great Britain, or "British Embassy."

The President of the United States should certainly know this. But we'll give him this much: He's on a par with some of the lesser educated citizens of the UK for not knowing the basic political makeup of the British Isles.

Here's something else we can (and should) all laugh at: Michele Bachmann has stated that she would close the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. Problem is, the United States does not have an embassy anywhere in Iran. We haven't had one since the Iranian hostage crisis during the Carter administration, when revolutionaries stormed our embassy there and held it for 444 days.

Talking Points Memo reports that, "According to a tweet from NBC News’ Jamie Novogrod, Bachmann responded to the recent raiding of the British embassy in Iran, by saying that if she was President, she would close down the U.S. embassy there." What's especially disturbing about Bachmann's statement is the fact that she is a member of the House Select Committee on Intelligence.

November 30, 2011 - I've been an avid supporter of Herman Cain for many months now. I like the man, I like his 9-9-9 tax plan as a starting point for reforming the federal tax code, and I love his background as a successful businessman. I have defended him against the slander and libel of those who accuse him of unproven sexual misconduct.

However, I can no longer support Herman Cain because he has shown that he is willing to waste my time and the time of his many remaining campaign workers. It comes down to this: Crap or get off the pot. Are you in? Or are you out? Stop sending mixed signals to us.

Earlier this week, Cain told campaign staff that he was "reassessing" his run for the presidency in the wake of multiple accusations of sexual harassment and even of having a long-time affair.

An Associated Press report yesterday said that "Herman Cain’s Iowa campaign chairman [says] that the candidate is reassessing his presidential campaign a day after an Atlanta businesswoman alleged a 13-year extramarital affair with the Republican."

This caused immediate concern, of course, among Cain's supporters. His campaign gurus tried to calm us later by "explaining" that Cain's use of the word reassessing had been misunderstood. Jim Galloway highlighted this in a post yesterday in the Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC).

Galloway wrote this:

"On the other hand, Daniel Malloy, the AJC’s man in Washington, just got off the phone with Cain spokesman J.D. Gordon, who sent this note." We then get the note, from which we read this (my emphasis added):

Gordon acknowledged that Cain in a staff call this morning used the word “reassess” about the campaign, but said it was not about whether or not he was going to drop out. Similar reassessments took place after the Iowa straw poll and at one point when the campaign was low on money, he said.

“My interpretation of that is that we are looking to assess where we are at today and where we need to be moving into the primary,” Gordon said. The campaign will rethink what states Cain visits, the types of speeches he gives and what interviews he conducts.

Today in Ohio, however, Cain blew Gordon's explanation out of the water. Speaking in West Chester, Cain was asked immediately after his speech if he was staying in or dropping out of the race. "Are you going to drop out, Mr. Cain?" came the question from off-camera. Cain's answer: "We are reassessing." (See 1:05 in the video here.)

The question was lobbed at Cain a few more times. About the fourth time he was asked, he said, "We are reassessing as we speak." Asked to be more specific, Cain responded, "Yes. Reassessment means reevaluation."

As Cain shook hands from admirers, he was then asked "What are supporters telling you right now?" His smiling response was, "Supporters are, it, it's been a groundswell of positive support," he said, "got, got it real quick? Groundswell, groundswell."

This is unsettling to me and to many Cain supporters I've had contact with today, since the Ohio speech. I don't know about any "groundswell" of support over the past 24 hours for Cain, and I'm fairly well in touch. Was he exaggerating, or has his campaign advisors misinformed him?

Was J.D. Gordon lying about reassessment? Or was he simply misinformed? Or, perhaps, did he himself misunderstand whatever explanation was given to him to share publicly? Hard to know.

Surely, though, Herman Cain was aware of the confusion, and the apparently confused explanation, of his use of the work "reassess." Surely his people advised him about this, which leads me to question his use of that word again today. What Herman Cain is doing, in effect, is dodging the question of whether he will stay in the Republican presidential primary race.

That, in my opinion, is disrespectful of the thousands of us who have spent time, and many have spent money, to support the Cain Campaign. We've stood by as his -character was being assassinated. We explained 9-9-9 to those who are arithmetic challenged. We are owed an answer to the question, and we are owed more than the non-definitive "we are reassessing."

There are deeper, longer term concerns here, as well. Herman Cain likes to say in his campaign speeches that a president should surround himself with good people. That's true, of course, but one wonders how good the people are who currently surround him. If Herman Cain cannot respond with specificity and certainty about staying in the race, then how would he respond to a question from an allied nation's leader about an urgent matter affecting our national security? If he would allow the attempts at character assassination to take him out of the race, how would President Cain respond to the daily and even more vicious attempts to attack his character? After all, that's just part of the president's job burden. Would he resign or brush it off and stay strong?

So, to Herman Cain I say this: Crap or get off the pot. Man up and make a decision. Then give your supporters their props by letting them know what you've decided.

November 28, 2011 - IRAN - Two mysterious explosions shook the city of Isfahan (or "Asfahan") in western Iran today, reports Ya Libnan, which quotes the semi-official Fars News Agency. The explosions are thought to have happened at or very near the Shahab-4 Ballistic missile facility.

"Two explosions have been reported in the Iranian town of Isfahan," reports JewishPress.com. "The first occurred at around 2:30 AM and was originally reported by Farsnews, until the report was taken down. Israel’s Channel 10 is reporting that a second explosion occurred not long ago at a Shahab-4 ballistic missile facility, also in Isfahan. Isfahan hosts a nuclear technology center and a uranium conversion facility, as well as a production plant which make alloys for nuclear reactors."

www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/world/iran/shahab-4.htm
It is still not clear what exploded or what caused the explosions. The only thing that is certain is that there are conflicting reports and a lot of confusion about the incident, as the Israel Matzav blog reports.

This may be significant because a uranium conversion plant not far from Isfahan went became fully functional in 2004. Today's blast comes as tensions between Israel and Iran are at an all-time high, and there is much speculation that Israel will attack Iran's nuclear facilities in an effor to prevent Iran from achieving nuclear weapons.

An updated item from Haaretz highlights how confusing this story really is. Some of the confusion is intentional. "Speaking with Fars news agency," reports Haaretz, "Isfahan’s deputy mayor confirmed the reports and said the authorities are investigating the matter. However, after the incident was reported in Israel, the report was taken off the Fars website." (My emphasis added.)

According to The Telegraph UK, "some sources told news agencies there had been a blast on military facilities, [but] others said there had been a fireball at a petrol station. Residents of the city were independently telling relatives and friends overseas that the city had been shaken by a massive blast in the early afternoon."

Fox News is also referring to the Fars report, and added "the Pentagon and the International Atomic Energy Agency both said they had no reports of an explosions in the city, which has a uranium conversion plant nearby."

Meanwhile, Haaretz (Israel) is also reporting that North Korea has supplied Syria and Iran "with a special kind of steel used to upgrading missiles and building centrifuges for uranium enrichment, the German newspaper Die Welt reported over the weekend."

And, just as a footnote, it will be 64 years ago tomorrow that the United Nations created the modern nation of Israel. On November 29, 1947 the U.N. passed Resolution 181, which divided the British-ruled Palestine into a Jewish state and an Arab state.

NASA Launches Nuke-Powered Mars Rover 'On Steroids'

Posted by T. Mannis Saturday, November 26, 2011

November 26, 2011 - NASA may be hobbled by budget cuts these days, but they're still doing amazing things. The amazing "Curiosity" rover was successfully launched from Cape Canaveral, FL today to make its 8½ month, 354 million mile journey to Mars. It's primary mission is to search for evidence of any past life forms on the red planet.

Curiosity is radically different from the little rovers that went before it. It's much larger. Huge, really, the size of a car. Earlier Mars rovers were about the size of golf cart. Curiosity is more complex and robust, too: Rovers Spirit and Opportunity carried five science instruments, while Curiosity has 10. One of those is a laser that can vaporize rock. Unlike other rovers, Curiosity has equipment that can identify organic molecules, which would give important information about the presence of life.
Space.com quotes Colleen Hartman, assistant associate administrator at NASA's science mission directorate, as saying that "the Mars Science Lab and the rover Curiosity [are] locked and loaded, ready for final countdown on Saturday's launch to Mars." Hartman also said that "This rover, Curiosity rover, is really a rover on steroids."

The most unusual part of the mission, however, may be the unusual, never-before used method for landing on the surface of Mars.

"Curiosity weighs one ton," says ABC News, "and is much too heavy to land on airbags like NASA's previous rovers, Spirit and Opportunity. So it will be slowed by a heat shield and parachute, then gently lowered to the planet's surface on cables suspended from a rocket-powered sky crane. It is the first time this design is being used, and mission managers have openly confessed they're uneasy."

Occupy Black Friday Stupidity, Plus a New Occupy Song (Video)

Posted by T. Mannis Friday, November 25, 2011

November 25, 2011 - We hope you got enough turkey on Thanksgiving Day. If you're like most Americans, you gave thanks for the good things in your life. Sure, many Americans are hurting these days: Unemployment, a bad mortgage situation, a pension fund in the crapper, rising prices, and so on. Even in bad times, though, most of us understand that it could be a lot worse, and we keep trying to make things better for ourselves and those around us.

Some Americans, however, do the opposite. Take many of the Occupy crowd, who would like nothing better than to make things worse for their fellow Americans by shutting down businesses and, as a result, causing layoffs and more unemployment. How would they do this?

Simple: Occupy is trying to shut down "Black Friday" retail shopping events across the country. Let's remember that many retailers, if not most, depend heavily on the Christmas shopping season to end their year with a profit. Many retailers just break even or perhaps operate in the red for the other 11 months of the year, holding on in anticipation of the year-end national shopping spree.

Millions of employees of those retailers, larger and small, depend on those profits to remain employed. Occupy, in some misguided attempt to do whatever the hell it is they think they're trying to do, wants to hurt the retail sales. Which means, by extension, that they are trying to harm the economic security of fellow Americans. Some Occupy people will tell you that they just want to encourage shoppers to favor small local businesses over the big chain retailers. That sounds nice, and I try to shop locally when I have a choice. But Occupy is trying to inflict damage on those big stores, apparently without realizing (or caring) that plenty of local residents earn their livings by working there.

Marathon Pundit compiled a great list that he calls "Occupy occtrocities: Black Friday edition." Here are a few items:

CNBC: Demonstrators plan to occupy retailers on Black Friday
CNBC: Tea Party activists challenge 'Occupy Black Friday' with 'BUYcott Black Friday'

Thankful, Hopeful on Thanksgiving Day

Posted by T. Mannis Thursday, November 24, 2011

November 24, 2011 - What am I thankful for this Thanksgiving? I am thankful for the abilities and blessing that God has given me. Wonderful parents (RIP), a good upbringing, great friends throughout the years, the extraordinary experiences I’ve had in my 56 years, and the privelege of being an American.

I am thankful, too, for those of you who have literally helped me to survive over the 12 months. You have shown that you're not just "Facebook friends," but actual, real friends by donating something to my PayPal account. And, of course, I am thankful for ramen noodles and McDonald’s Dollar menu!

Your generosity has allowed me to eat now and then and to pay a bit of rent.

Without that help, added to the little bit I make now and then from online writing, ad sales and graphics work, I might well be dead today. I am thankful to be alive still.

I am thankful that I had a job interview yesterday, by phone, with a department of the State of Wisconsin. It was set up through a temp agency that I registered with back in late July, shortly after relocating back to Madison, WI after becoming homeless in mid-July, 2011.

I spoke with the temp agency this afternoon. No decision has been made, and with the holiday tomorrow I won't hear until at least Friday whether I got the job. Please pray that I do.

I've been looking for work now for more than two years, as have a few million other Americans. I've been more fortunate than many. I lost my Chicago apartment in mid-July because I could not make the rent any longer. Unlike many, though, I am not sleeping under a bridge yet, and that's something to be thankful for as well.

In preparation for my new homelessness, I packed what I could into a backpack and slung my laptop over my shoulder. I went up to Madison (where I was born, raised and graduated college), because I did not want to be living on the dirty streets of Chicago.

I spent my first night in Madison in a men's shelter, then a couple of nights on the street. I managed to find a room for $300 for 30 days, but that ended on August 22, when the building reverted to students-only for the start of the new school year.

Not able to find another place to stay, I went homeless again, but for only two nights until the brother and sister in law of a friend took me in. They - and I - are in a sleep suburb 15 from Madison. I've been camping in their basement for $300 a month since late August.

There was a tradeoff involved in that move, however.

My choice in late August was this: Remain on the street in Madison which is dangerous even in Madison and where sleeping is very difficult even in good weather, or move to the suburb, where job prospects a bleak. I chose bleak hope over living like a rat. There is no public transportation from here to Madison, and not much hiring going on, which makes finding a job difficult, and makes interviewing virtually impossible.

I've applied to a number of places, such as a pizzeria, a convenience mart, a video store. I've gotten no calls back from those places, but after badgering the pizza place he agreed to let me come in to talk with him. That was three weeks ago. During the interview he asked me if working in the pizza kitchen would be my dream job.

I kept a straight face but answered honestly, "No, but right now my only dream is to have job." As I was leaving, he said, "Maybe I'll have you come in a few days next week, see how you like it." He hasn't called. Perhaps he didn't want an old guy. In his mid-30s, he asked me if I would have a problem with a boss who is younger than I am. I told him no, I've had younger bosses and it's not an issue for me. In hindsight I realize the guy was determined to not hire me because I am "over qualified" (a phrase I detest). He didn't actually say that, but the "dream job" question gave it away. Over qualified and under fed, that's me.

With only $46.00 in the bank as I write this, I don't know how much longer I can stay in this basement. I was able to give my hosts only $200 for November so far, a hundred dollars short. In exchange, they've said I could make up the difference by helping with household chores such as laundry, dishes and general cleaning. I've been doing that, of course, and they're very nice people, a young couple, but things are tight for them too. I don't want to become a burden on them. I wonder when and what I will eat next, where I will or can go next, and how I will get there.

Perhaps I made a fatal error in staying in Wisconsin for the winter. Perhaps I should have headed south to the Gulf Coast when I had the money to buy a one-way bus ticket. My only hope now is for another of God's many little miracles, some help from friends, and landing that job with the State.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, then, and I have volunteered to help clean up after the annual free Thanksgiving Feast at a local VFW. There will be free turkey and all the trimmings, for which I am thankful in advance.

A small contribution from you would help me hold on until I (finally) find work. If you're willing to give a buck or two, please find my PayPal donate button at the top of the sidebars here.

God bless you, and Happy Thanksgiving.

Mitt Romney's Pro-Obama Campaign Video (Spoof)

Posted by T. Mannis Wednesday, November 23, 2011

Did Mitt Romney release a campaign ad that promotes the re-election of Barack Obama? Well, no, but this spoof looks pretty convincing. Posted on BuzzFeed's channel at YouTube on November 22. Funny stuff.

Thank God For The NYPD, Shame On The FBI

Posted by T. Mannis Monday, November 21, 2011

NYPD anti-terror training, late 2010 - ABC.com
November 21, 2011 - A little over ten years ago, the FBI let the 9/11 terrorists slip through their fingers.

The FBI dropped the ball again in the new case of Jose Pimentel, the man arrested by New York City police yesterday on suspicious of plotting bomb attacks. New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said the Justice Department was aware of the investigation.

"But," reports Joe Coscarelli at NYMag.com, the FBI "was not involved in the arrest because of its rushed nature." Coscarelli quoted Kelly as also saying, "We had to act quickly yesterday because he was in fact putting this bomb together, drilling a hole, and it would have been not appropriate for us to let him walk out the door with the bomb."

An Associated Press report today says that the FBI chose to ignore Jose Pimentel.  "Federal authorities declined to pursue a case against an "al-Qaida sympathizer" accused of wanting to bomb police stations and post offices in New York City because they believed he was mentally unstable and incapable of pulling off the alleged plot, two law enforcement officials said Monday."

The Wall Street Journal notes the strangeness of the absence of Federal authorities in this investigation and arrest. "Several people familiar with the case said federal agents and prosecutors reviewed the evidence," reports Sophia Hollander at WSJ, "but decided against trying to build federal terrorism charges against Mr. Pimentel—the second time this year federal authorities declined to take part in a terror probe handled principally by the NYPD. In both instances, the Manhattan district attorney took the case instead—rare instances of a local prosecutor tackling terrorism cases."

It's not the first time that the FBI has deliberately ignored a developing terror threat. In the weeks and days leading up to the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York and Washington, D.C., the FBI "failed at least five times to detain two of the September 11 hijackers who took part in the attacks," according to a declassified Justice Department report. According to the report, said the Independent Online (IOL), "US authorities could have arrested al-Qaeda members Nawaf al-Hazmi and Khalid al-Mihdhar - who were on the plane that smashed into the defence department headquarters near Washington - just before September 11, 2001."

The New York Police Department, thank God, did not sit around waiting for the FBI to do something about Jose Pimentel. AP reports today that "Federal authorities declined to pursue a case against an 'al-Qaida sympathizer' accused of wanting to bomb police stations and post offices in New York City because they believed he was mentally unstable and incapable of pulling off the alleged plot, two law enforcement officials said Monday."

Is it now the FBI's policy that they simply dismiss a potential terrorist because, to paraphrase, they think he's nuts? If so, that would require them to ignore an awful lot of crazy lunatics out there. As for being "incapable of pulling off" a bomb plot, let's get serious: You don't have to be a genius to put together a very simple pipe bomb.

Such inaction and willingness by the FBI to ignore a character like Jose Pimentel is very disturbing. Republican Congressman Peter King said there seems to be a "growing difference in philosophy" between the FBI and the New York Police Department, adding that it's "not a good sign the FBI wasn't there" at Mayor Bloomberg's press conference about the arrest of Pimentel.

It's fortunate that Jose Pimentel did not have an airplane at his disposal.

November 20, 2011 - New York City - Police arrested a man who allegedly planned to blow up police vehicles, post offices and U.S. soldiers returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. A report by the Los Angeles Times says that NYPD said that one of his motives was to "protest U.S. military presence in those countries."

That man is Jose Pimentel, age 27, (photos, top) is a native of the Dominican Republic who was raised in Manhattan and converted to Islam. According to NYPD, Pimentel was in the process of constructing a pipe bomb when they arrested him. He had been on an FBI watch list for several years. See press conference video below; also see the press release from Mayor Bloomberg's office.

Authorities recently stepped up their surveillance of Pimentel after September 30. That's when Anwar Awlaki  was killed by a U.S. drone missile strike in Yemem. Pimentel is said to have been greatly influenced by Awlaki.  CBS News has posted the entire criminal complaint against Jose Pimentel.

According to a CBS report about Pimentel, "The complaint reveals the Pimentel made numerous incriminating statements to a confidential informant during a 12-month investigation. On Sept. 7, Pimentel allegedly told the informant he was interested building small bombs targeting government or police buildings and banks. Three weeks later, he allegedly gave the informant a flash drives containing two bomb-making manuals."

On Monday, November 21, Pimentel's mother actually apologized to New York for her son's alleged actions. New York Daily News quotes Carmen Sosa, 56, as saying, “I want to apologize to the City of New York,” and “I love the city. I’ve been here since 1987 and I’m very disappointed with what my son was doing. I didn’t raise him that way." She even praised the NYPD. “I feel very bad about the situation. I thank the police. They did what they’re supposed to do.”

UPDATED: Are Children Signing Walker Recall Petitions In Wisconsin?

Posted by T. Mannis Saturday, November 19, 2011

UPDATED: November 23, 2011 - Were these two Recall Walker petition signers underage? Apparently not, according to a report by WISN TV Milwaukee. In a video report, WISN interviewed Lateesah Love, 20, one of the signers who many thought looked too young to sign a petition. Watch the WISN video about the recall petition signers. Our original post appears below, preserved for the record.

November 19, 2011 - Milwaukee - We all know Democrats love voter fraud, but this is over the top. Right out in the open, these two young "ladies" signed a petition to recall Wisconsin's Republican Governor Scott Walker.

Question: Do they look like they are 18, the age you need to be in Wisconsin to vote -- or to sign a recall petition?

The frame to the left was taken from a disturbing new video (below), just uploaded to YouTube today. It was posted by "hawzwood," who titled the video "Occupy Milwaukee - Apparent Recall Walker Signature Fraud." Hawzwood added this description:

"Recall Walker Signature Collection Fraud -- Cigarettes for Signatures. This video and pictures were collected on the corner of 7th and North Ave. in Milwaukee during the "Occupy Milwaukee" protest/takeover of the bridge. These appear to be children under the age of 18. They were also given cigarettes in exchange for their signatures. They were asked if it would be OK to contact them to enlist their help in getting signatures from their friends."

There have been hundreds - perhaps thousands - of videos made about the failure of Obama's "hope and change." Here is one of the best I've seen, perhaps the best in terms of production quality and message.

This one (below) is titled "How's That Workin' Out For You?" and it asks a question that Sarah Palin made popular: How IS that hope and change working for ya? Not so good? The hook of the song's lyrics:

How's that hope and change working out for you?
Did it give you all that you want it to?
Did it lead you into the promised land?
Next time you step inside of the voting booth
Maybe you will think of the honest truth
Instead of raising a foolish man.

The editing of this video masterful, the Russ Diamond's music is fresh and catchy. It pits Obama's false promises against the words of Ronald Reagan, but Obama's own words mock him best. Powerful stuff. Watch it. Share it. Talk about it.

UPDATED: NYPD EVICTS #OCCUPY FROM ZUCCOTTI

Posted by T. Mannis Tuesday, November 15, 2011

Tuesday, 15 November 2011 - New York - 4:23 PM ET - New York police in riot gear are in the process of evicting thousands of Occupy Wall Street protesters from Zuccotti Park. We've got some excellent links (below), including several to live news feeds from Zuccotti Park, including a link to NYPD's scanner frequency, streaming in real time.

There were reports of police using tear gas and flash grenades. Some protesters were pepper sprayed and handcuffed. At least 36 have been arrested.

"Authorities declared that the continued occupation of Zuccotti Park," reports the Globe and Mail, "which had become a sea of tents, tarps and protest signs with hundreds of demonstrators sleeping there – posed a health and safety threat."

"Hundreds of helmeted, baton-wielding police officers flooded Zuccotti Park in an under-cover-of-dark showdown early Tuesday," reports the New York Daily News, "ripping down protesters' tents and ordering them to get out or face arrest. Police surrounded the park around 1 AM and read a notice over a bullhorn telling the Occupy Wall St. protesters that sanitation trucks would be removing tents and other property from the site."

Patriotic Ties, American Made for Liberty Lovers

Posted by T. Mannis Sunday, November 06, 2011

A good friend and fellow patriot named Forrest (left) recently launched a new line of really cool, fashionable neckties with an all-American theme. The fledgling company is called "Libertate," which he and his partners point out is "not just a brand." No sir, "it's a movement."

"We started a clothing brand," says the Libertate website, "to embrace what we love about America; liberty, freedom, and you. Our low-volume exclusive designs integrate the multi-colored fabric of America as inspiration and give it a kick with a modern edge. It's our way of saying we believe in our founding ideals and proudly stand for them today."

All of their ties are made in the USA with handmade designs "conceptualized from people of like mind, then cut, sewn, screened, and hand-wrapped with care, right here in the great city of Chicago. While other companies churn out large quantities for the masses, we do the opposite so that you have something unique, made with passion and soul."

True dedication requires sacrifice, and Libertate does it happily: They donate 5% of their proceeds to "liberty organizations we believe make a positive difference."

This group of young entrepreneurs is doing its part to make a small business successful, employ some fellow Americans, and help our economy to recover. I hope you consider that before you by a tie made in another country ever again.

Check out the nicely done Libertate website and select a few ties for truly unique Christmas gifts this season. Get a couple for yourself, while you're at it.

Gingrich - Cain Debate: Who Won (Poll)

Posted by T. Mannis Saturday, November 05, 2011

November 5, 2011 - Okay, you've had time to think it over: Who won tonight's 90-minute debate between Herman Cain or Newt Gingrich?

I'm asking because during the debate I was involved with Reboboam Cask Conditioning Filter Hang Dortmunder Wit Seidel. Tun Pokal Oxidized Helle Helle Hydrometer Lager Nebuchadnezzar. Body Wort, Biere de garde Draugh Willibecher. Lauter Barley Hops Ethanol or Ethyl Alcohol; Jeroboam Pilsner Ethanol or Ethyl Alcohol? Mead Primary Fermentation Ethanol or Ethyl Alcohol. Dry Hopping Wort Chiller Draugh, Gueuze Yard Imperial Hand Pump. Gueuze Brew Kettle Barrel Fruity Wit Mead Fruity. I'll regret that in the morning, I'm sure.

Please - Ron Paul supporters only:

Do you see any Teletubbies in here? Do you see a slender plastic tag clipped to my shirt with my name printed on it? Do you see a little Asian child with a blank expression on his face sitting outside on a mechanical helicopter that shakes when you put quarters in it? No? Well, that's what you see at a toy store. And you must think you're in a toy store, because you're here shopping for an infant named Jeb.

You think water moves fast? You should see ice. It moves like it has a mind. Like it knows it killed the world once and got a taste for murder. After the avalanche, it took us a week to climb out. Now, I don't know exactly when we turned on each other, but I know that seven of us survived the slide... and only five made it out. Now we took an oath, that I'm breaking now. We said we'd say it was the snow that killed the other two, but it wasn't. Nature is lethal but it doesn't hold a candle to man.
