Whoops. The Swamp, the blog of mainstream media giant Chicago Tribune's Washington DC bureau, got the "Palin gaffe" story wrong, too. Shame on you, Swamp dwellers, for trusting a piece on Huff Post and not checking the facts yourself! The Bench found this at the History News Network:
The Federal National Mortgage Association, nicknamed Fannie Mae, and the Federal Home Mortgage Corporation, nicknamed Freddie Mac, have operated since 1968 as government sponsored enterprises (GSEs).
