Commander Rottner Promoted to Deputy Chief

Thanks to CAPS 2411, a great group. From them today, this news, which is unfortunately incorrect. It refers to Steve Caluris as a sergeant. In fact, he was Deputy Chief Steve Caluris of the CPD's Organized Crime Division until his promotion today. The following email is based on erroneous information passed out by 49th Ward Alderdummy Joe Moore. Don't blame CAPS; Moore ought to know better. MORE DETAILS: NEW SUPERINTENDENT SHAKES UP POLICE DEPARTMENT (NBC). Date: Thur, 13 Mar 2008 15:30:00 GMT Subject: Network 2424 - Main Board From: QT To: QT topic subscribers Congratulations to 24th Commander Bruce Rottner, who is being promoted to Deputy Chief of Patrol for Area 3 (basically the entire north side). While his promotion means that we're losing a valuable resource in the 24th district, the good news is he'll still be active over this area. Chicago Police Sergeant Steve Caluris is scheduled to be the new 24th District Commander. In an e-mail from Ald. Moore's office, Rottner says that Caluris is an excellent community-oriented police official who will continue his hands-on approach. Network 2424 residents first started meeting with Commander Rottner in 2006 to address issue of drug dealing and problem landlords. Rottner was open to regular meetings on the topic. While we didn't always get what we wanted, we did receive increased attention, in particular 3 sting operations that had a major impact on drug dealing here. Complaints by residents were promptly addressed and our complaints about patrol officers resulted in improved relations with the police. The meetings helped educate neighbors on the police limits, both legally and in budget terms. We also benefitted from having the commander's and other police officer's e-mail address, which proved very helpful on numerous occasions. A new commander means that we should look to requesting a meeting with him in the late Spring to update on issues that we have here
