Thank You, Morse Theatre. (Shame on You, Alderman Moore)

For weeks the drain in the alleyway that runs from 1340 W. Morse north to Lunt in Rogers Park was clogged up. And, for weeks, the owners of The Morse Theatre called 49th Ward Alderman Joe Moore's office.

For weeks, they asked Moore to arrange for Streets and Sanitation to unclog the drain. For weeks they got no action. The Morse Theatre, under construction at 1328 W. Morse Avenue in Rogers Park, has had to pump water out of what will be a basement in the theater, scheduled to open next summer. The water was pumped into the alley, but the plugged drain could not take it in fast enough.

Finally, the theater owners had enough and shelled out over $1,000 of their own money to have a private contractor clean it out. That's a thousand dollars, folks, of private money that went to unplug a drain that should have been fixed using public tax dollars.

We all owe a big "Thank You" to The Morse Theatre for taking it upon themselves to take the action that Alderman Moore should have taken weeks ago. Meanwhile, directly across the street on Morse Avenue, a pile of loose gravel has been sitting for many months. Is Joe Moore waiting for one of the merchants there to clean it up themselves, or will he get off his lazy fat regal ass and make a phone call to Streets and Sanitation? How about asking some of the DevCorp laborers to shovel it up? What the hell are we paying those people for, anyway? What are we paying Moore for?
